Cafe Du Monde - Yokohama

July 13, 2007: Cafe Du Monde, Yokohama

Now that I am in Japan, I can start blogging about the food in Japan! On Friday, I went to Cial in Yokohama and stopped by the Cafe Du Monde to have a little snack.

Drinking iced tea while waiting for the beignets to come out!

After we ordered our beignets and drinks, we sat down in their smaller "no-smoking" section and waited for our beignets to arrive. The cafe was actually quite crowded with most people searching for a seat in the "smoking" section. Whats interesting is that the cafe is about 70% smoking seats with just about 30% of the seats in the front designated as their "non-smoking" area. Why people want to smoke while drinking tea/coffee and eating yummy beignets is beyond me! I wish they would close off the "smoking" section more so that the "non-smokers" don`t have to inhale their deadly fumes!

The wonderful cinnamon sugar beignets

About five minutes later, the beignets arrived, hot from the fryer! They were covered in a nice layer of cinnamon and sugar. They were a little bit crispy on the outside and super soft on the inside and were absolutely perfect! You cannot get beignets like these in California! The beignets are not oily at all and are very light and sweet. I always wonder if the ones in New Orleans at the original Cafe Du Monde are as good as the ones I eat at the Cafe Du Mondes here in Japan!
